At approximately 7,100 yards from the tips three additional sets of tees allow the course to be played by players of all abilities. Always in championship condition players carry high praise for our greens which many rank as the best on the West Coast.
The Par Threes
The 4th is the first of four exceptionally good par threes, all of which feature plenty of water. At 150 yards, it's not long but the green is small and well protected by a lake and a bunker short and by steep drops away from the green on all sides that leave you a very tricky chip should you miss the green. The 7th at 180 yards, offers a slightly larger target, but it to is well protected left by a long bunker, while short offers only a watery grave. The 15th, at 175 yards places its' premium on precision once more. This beautiful par three plays over water to a raised green surrounded by bunkers. The 17th at 224 yards is the longest and the toughest par 3 on the course. The hole plays over water it's entire length although the large green does provide an inviting target. To the left the water snakes round towards the back of the green while two large bunkers protect the bail out bunt to the right. There is nothing for it but to get up and make the shot, take you par and run on this one!
The Par Fours
There are so many outstanding par 4 holes at Stoneybrook that picking the best is no easy task. In a push the 5th and 9th highlight the constant strategic challenge that Stoneybrook offers. At 416 yards the 5th fairway winds in a gentle S shape between two lakes. The second of which runs right up to the left edge of the green. Accuracy off the tee is a must and although the fairways are generous off line tee shots will meet with a watery end on just about every hole. The 9th is a dogleg left of some 412 yards with the tee shot over wetlands. The second shot is once again over water which protects 2/3s of the green to the right. The 13th, is the longest par 4 on the course playing 482 yards from the back tees. Par here is a great score on anyone's card but water protects the entire right side of the fairway from tee to green and bunkers are strategically placed to catch the drive that steers too far left. In a links like feature not seen on many courses a large bunker is also placed in the middle of the fairway making the player think carefully about where he wants his ball to land. The 18th is a great finishing hole which at just 336 yards offers the player a closing birdie opportunity. The entire hole is protected by a lake down the right and the plateau green is small and guarded left and right be deep bunkers. Like many holes at Stoneybrook strategy over strength is the key to having a good round. Put your tee shot in the correct position and the green will open up.
The Par Fives
The 3rd is the first of the par 5s all of which are very strategic in nature all although all have a very different identity. At 510 yards from the back it's not long and can be reached in two good shots but trouble abounds. From the tee in the form of a lake right and a bunker left. The second shot narrows at the landing area with a pond taking anything left an a large angled bunker taking anything drifting right. The green slopes towards the water slightly offers plenty of subtle breaks to protect par on this very birdiable hole. The 6th is perhaps the most straightforward of the par fives. Although the tee shot plays over water it will rarely come into play. The key shot here is the second, which must flirt with a series of bunkers that run diagonally across the right side of the fairway. Only by taking a line close to them can you set yourself up with an easy pitch to the angled green which is protected by a single enormous trap short and left with the green raised some four feet above it. The 11th, is at 600 yards the longest hole on the course and certainly one of the best par fives you will play anywhere. The tee shot is the only one on the entire back nine where water doesn't come into play so thankfully you can 'give it a rip' just be sure to avoid the huge bunker on the left. The second shot must be placed strategically between a huge bunker to the right and a pond surrounded by mature trees. this set up your third shot to a picturesque green guarded short and right by a beautiful lake. 16, the other par 5 on the back nine is easily the prettiest hole on the entire course. A slight dogleg left playing 534 yards from the tips it's a reachable par five with plenty of trouble awaiting the wayward second shot. The small green is surrounded in mature trees and protected by mounds and deep bunkers.
